Black Mountain picks new police main, who then withdraws software

Immediately after a lengthy choice approach, the city of Black Mountain chose Russ Gilliland, the main of law enforcement in Maggie Valley, as the new main in city, only to have him withdraw his software virtually a week later on.

Black Mountain picked Gilliland to be the new police chief Aug. 19, Josh Harrold, Black Mountain city manager, reported in an e mail. Gilliland withdrew as a candidate Aug. 25.

“There had been two top candidates,” Harrold claimed Aug. 25, not revealing the other applicant. “I will be meeting with the other prospect within just the next 7 days and hope to be in a position to make an offer you.”

In accordance to Gilliland, as word circulated via Maggie Valley of his imminent departure, the community voiced its strong drive for him to keep. From his patrol officers to the citizens of the town, Gilliland stated his town did not want him to leave.
