Corrosion 101

What is corrosion?

The corrosion process: When moisture is present for prolonged periods of time, corrosion "cells" are formed. These cells act as miniature batteries, feeding the transfer of electrons as long as any oxygen-providing moisture is present.
Waxes retain water: Most corrosion inhibitors contain sealants such as wax, tar, asphalt, teflon or silicone that lay on top of the corrosion cell. Because of their thick composition, they cannot remove the electrolyte and may actually seal it in, thereby encouraging corrosion.

How do Pacific Corrosion Control's products work?

The product is applied: The recommended way to apply ACF-50 is to use a specially-designed high pressure pump system to convert it into a dense fog. Corrosion Block can be applied by spraying, fogging or simply wiping it on with a shop rag.
The product penetrates the corrosion by-product: Our ultra-thin formulas easily penetrate the entire corrosion cell.
The product ejects the electrolyte: The product displaces and/or emulsifies and encapsulates any moisture present in the cell and brings it to the surface where it evaporates. The product then fills the cell with a 40 KV dielectric barrier to prevent further moisture contact with the base metal.
No electrolyte means no corrosion! The product acts as an insulator, terminating the electrolytic process for up to 24 months!

Why invest in corrosion control products?

Two Important Facts:

  1. The cost of repairing corroded aircraft is 100 times the cost of preventive maintenance.
  2. A 10% reduction in maintenance expenses would increase the net profit of airlines by 40%.

Four Maintenance Facts:

  1. Dwindling maintenance budgets, coupled with closer scrutiny of operating costs are commonplace.
  2. Equipment down-time, repair and replacement are expensive.
  3. Regularly-scheduled, preventive maintenance is always less expensive than the repair or replacement of equipment.
  4. With regular use, Corrosion Block will significantly reduce your overhead expenses.

The bottom line: Using Pacific Corrosion Control products as the primary components in your corrosion control program will significantly reduce your replacement, repair and labor expenses.

Why are Pacific Corrosion Control products superior to other products?

ACF-50

ACF-50 ultimately costs less than other products since:
  • It lasts for 24 months.
  • Application is fast and easy with virtually no cleanup. It doesn't leave a sticky, waxy mess during application, thereby reducing cleanup time.
  • It has excellent coverage-3,000 sf when used with our fogging system.
  • Corrosion-related replacement and repair costs are cut substantially.
  • Inspections can be performed without labor-intensive removal procedures.
  • Corrosion prevention and control become more predictable, as an application can be done during regularly scheduled annual maintenance without the need for extended down time.

Corrosion Block

Corrosion Block is the marine version of ACF-50. It is a state-of-the-art, anti-corrosion compound specially formulated to perform in the extremes of the marine environment.

Corrosion Block has five superior features:

  1. It is a superior anti-corrosion compound.
  2. It kills corrosion in progress.
  3. It prevents new corrosion cells from forming for 24 months.
  4. It is an excellent penetrant.
  5. It is an excellent light lubricant.

Corrosion Block is a clean, clear, ultra-thin fluid which leaves a non-greasy atmospheric barrier to protect the base metal on interior surfaces. Corrosion Block leaves no gummy residue because it contains no wax, resin, tar, asphalt, silicone or teflon. It is virtually non-toxic and cleans up easily from hands, clothes and painted surfaces with soap and water.

Corrosion Block's ability to remove moisture, combined with its excellent penetrating and strong dielectric properties, have brought a number of electronics "back from the dead" with just one application. Corrosion Block can be used in many different electrical and electronic applications without fear of damage. And it won't harm any plastics or painted surfaces and is actually good for rubber, keeping it from cracking and drying out.

Applying Corrosion Block is easy. Simply spray or wipe it on the area to be protected until it appears to be shiny. You don't need to saturate the entire surface as you do with some other products. Corrosion Block has a strong capillary action and will spread into the smallest crevices, leaving an ultra-thin film.

Corrosion Block actively penetrates corrosion on metal surfaces and isolates it electrically from the base metal. Once Corrosion Block has penetrated into the corrosion cell, it displaces and/or emulsifies and encapsulates any moisture present in the cell and brings it to the surface where it evaporates. Corrosion Block then fills the cell with a 40 KV dielectric barrier to prevent further moisture contact with the base metal for up to 24 months.

Corrosion Block Grease

Corrosion Block Grease is a technologically advanced, high performance, multi-purpose grease with unique anti-corrosion properties. It out performs lithium complex greases and provides exceptional compatibility with almost all grease types. The anti-oxidant properties of its unique, ashless, thickening system provides an exceptionally long life at high temperatures, while maintaining its excellent extreme pressure properties. Even in applications where the grease is completely burned off, little or no residue is formed.

Features

  • Excellent extreme pressure (EP) properties
  • Excellent thermal stability
  • Outstanding oxidation stability
  • Excellent salt water resistance
  • Contains no heavy metals or environmentally objectionable materials
  • Excellent low temperature mobility
  • Compatible with most grease types
  • Distinctive aqua color

Benefits

  • Protects heavily loaded equipment, and extends bearing life
  • Resists running, bleeding and softening at high temperatures
  • Suitable for extended periods of operation at elevated temperatures
  • Ideal for use in sealed-for-life applications
  • Will not soften, breakdown, or wash out in wet applications
  • Workplace friendly and environmentally responsible
  • Suitable for use in centralized lubrication systems
  • Excellent for use in low temperature environments
  • Easy conversion and reduced concerns over cross contamination

All of these features add up to less downtime and lower operating costs!

CorroSeal

CorroSeal® has ten superior features:

  1. It takes 1/3 the power tool preparation time compared to conventional metal primers.
  2. It protects against future rusting. Lasts as long as as the topcoat.
  3. Eliminates the need to sand blast the surface.
  4. Surface preparation may be done at one time or spread over several weeks.
  5. Works with nearly all conventional industrial top coats.
  6. Easy cleanup with soap and water.
  7. Pleasant odor.
  8. Non-flammable.
  9. Non-toxic.
  10. Non-corrosive.
